Matt left work to pick up the orders and I left work to come home and get the girls. We met at Cooks and it has to be one of the worst emergency rooms I've ever been in. The smell when the doors opened was enough to knock you over. It smelled like the worst nursing home smell times 10. I know this is suppose to be one of the best hospitals for children, but every experience I've had of them thus far has been bad. From the nurses that came to the house to "help" when Ava was a baby(and I use that term loosely, I think they did more damage than good) to the Emergency room.... I am not impressed!
We were suppose to give them the orders and get the girls tested immediately.... Not so. Some woman that needed to feel as if she was in charge and in control made us "register" first. I understand that they need our information but no kidding it took thirty minutes (once we got to the counter) for the lady to type in our names, address and insurance information...can it be that hard? So during all this time waiting in the emergency room it felt like every sick kid in Fort Worth came in. We held Ava and didn't let her down for two reasons 1) we didn't want her to get everyone else's germs and 2) if she had whooping cough we didn't want her to spread it. Can you imagine what is was like keeping a two year old still for over an hour? It was hard! Audrey stayed in the car seat, we were trying to minimize our exposure. As soon as we got in the door of the house we stopped at the Landry room and all de-robed to minimize the exposure of the germs. (too bad it didn't work!)
Well whether it was Ava who maybe had a cold or the extended period of time in the filthy emergency room, Audrey got sick. At midnight on Friday she woke me up crying. I felt her little forehead and she was on fire. I took her temperature and it was 102. We gave her Tylenol but it only brought it down to 101.7. So needless to say Matt and I were up all night. We called the doctor the next morning to see what they said.
We were suppose to start both girls on antibiotics Thursday but we didn't. We would have the test results within 24 hours and I didn't see a need to give them antibiotics for no reason. I was thinking that the doctor would scold me when I called, so I made Matt talk to them. Luckily they didn't say anything about it. The nurse didn't seem too concerned with the fever, only if it stayed up for several days or if it went over 102.
The fever broke today around 10 am, yeah!! It has come back but at least it went under 100!! I am hoping that we'll get to enjoy the game tonight and then a good night sleep! We had several options for the game but with us being sick they're all out the window now!
I am now trying to sanitize the whole house so that none of the rest of us gets sick!
